All the World's a Stage:
REED's WWW Links for Theatre History and Early Music:
8. Archives, Libraries, and Other Repositories

Will Kemp

Most of the sites listed here are British, although there are important sites for REED research elsewhere than the UK, and not all of them are archival (such as those libraries which contain early playtexts). I've tried to list some of the more important ones I know of. If you know of other relevant links not listed here, please help improve this list by sending me what I've missed, especially to sites outside the UK.

  1. Access to Archives (A2A), an on-going project at the British National Archives. The goal is to put the catalogues of all the local repositories on-line; it's regularly up-dated.

  2. The Beinecke Library, Yale University

  3. The Bodleian Library

  4. The British Library

  5. Cambridge University Library and JANUS, access to Cambridge Archival and MSS collections

  6. COPAC, providing unified access to the catalogues of some of the largest university research libraries in the UK and Ireland.

  7. The Folger Shakespeare Library Collections.

  8. The Huntington Library

  9. The British National Archives (formerly the Public Record Office), offering
    ARCHON, a listing of all on-line archives and record offices in the British Isles;
    the National Register of Archives; and
    the on-line National Archives Catalogue, formerly PROCAT.

  10. The Newberry Library

  11. The National Union Catalogue of Manuscripts Collections has a web page, which also provides open access to the Research Libraries Information Network (RLIN) site.
