All the World's a Stage:
REED's WWW Links for Theatre History and Early Music:
10. British Local History Links

Will Kemp

Local history is an area of ever-increasing interest for REED researchers, as for many others, such as family historians. A few of the sites which provide useful guides or listings are:

  1. The home page for the Department of English Local History at Leicester University.

  2. The Institute for Historical Research provides lots of links to on-line information of interest to local historians.

  3. Local History Magazine offers an index of various links to local history sites.

  4. The US Library of Congress provides a Local History and Genealogy Reading Room guide.

  5. The first edition six-inch Ordnance Survey maps for the UK are very helpful for locating forgotten places.

In addition, there are other British history sites that may be of use to REED researchers, that we have found useful here in the Toronto Office:

  1. British History On-line.

  2. A database of English clergy.

  3. The Calendar of Patent Rolls on-line.

REED's other topical indexes include:

Mediaeval and Early Modern Theatre | Shakespeare | Other Theatre Resources | Play Texts |
Early Music | Early Dance | Palaeography | Archives, Libraries, and Other Repositories | and Journals On-Line
